Youth Island on River Bednja, Ludbreg

Youth Island is natural island on River Bednja, in the center of city of Ludbreg. It was used from 1950’s to 1990 for youth and sports events. One part was also used by fisherman for artificial fish pond. In 1990’s local government stops taking care, and until year 2000 Youth Island is devastated and inaccessible. Some 15 years ago local NGO’s including LUMEN start to fix the bridge and make few yearly events on the Island.

Old Roman swimming pools, Ludbreg

An early Roman Imperial settlement was established in the fist century AD on the vital road that ran parallel to the Drava River. To layout of Iovia – of which the public, residential and manufacturing sections have been partially excavated – overlaps with the wider center of modern-day Ludbreg. The most important finds are the entirely excavated small baths and the monumental building. These findings are today closed for public.

Natural hot thermal water spring, Ludbreg

This spring was famous in Roman times, and there were healing swimming pools. In last years there were plans to revitalize and make use of those springs, but they are still not used and forgotten. Interesting fact is that directly on the hot spring water goes out with flammable gasses so that water can be put on fire. Water is still used by elderly inhabitants, as it’s believed that it has healing properties.

Old mill and bakery, Ludbreg

The mill which is rebuild after WWII was one of the largest in North-West Croatia. After 1990’s and privatization this mill and surrounding area becomes private and closed till now. Even today this is one of the largest industrial complex in the town, and it’s becoming more devastating every year. In last few months there are some projects to make it hydro power plant and use surrounding buildings for NGOs.
